About Us
Valley Christian Church began as an informal community Sunday School class back in the 1920s. This Sunday School class met for several years in the old schoolhouse located on Alessandro Blvd. and Wilmot St. on the east end of Moreno Valley.
In 1952 this group was approached by the Brethren in Christ denomination who asked them if they would supply a place for some of their young ministers to get started in ministry. So for about four years they continued meeting in the old schoolhouse while the Brethren in Christ sent out those training to be ministers as well as musical soloists and quartets.
In 1956 this group of believers decided to build their own church building. The building they built is located on Redlands Blvd. just north of Alessandro and is still being used as a church today. Sometime after the completion of this building, Moreno Community Chapel, as it was known then, officially became part of the Brethren in Christ.
In 1979, the church, which had changed its name to, Moreno Community Church, established the first Christian preschool in Moreno Valley. Valley Christian Academy (known as Moreno Christian School prior to 1996) now offers before and after school day care as well as preschool through eighth grade programs.
Feeling the need to expand and make room for the future, Moreno Community Church moved once again in November of 1985. This time to its present location on Alessandro Blvd. near Nason St. In the year 2000, Moreno Community Church again changed its name to Valley Christian Church. This was done to (1) eliminate our fellowship being confused with other fellowships whose names begin with "Moreno," and (2) make a more obvious association between our church (Valley Christian Church) and our Christian school (Valley Christian Academy).
In its long history, there have been several ministers who have given quality leadership to Valley Christian Church. Such people as Cecil and Belva Meares who headed up the original Sunday School group. Cletus and Catherine Naylor who served over 18 years collectively as the pastoral couple. Ric and Leigh Ann Feeney who oversaw the building of our present location as well as the establishment of Valley Christian Academy. And many more.
Valley Christian Church has had a long and fruitful past, and we're looking forward to an even greater future together!!
The Brethren In Christ is a body of believers in Jesus Christ which began in the late 1700's in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania whose beliefs can be characterized as a synthesis of three theological streams: Anabaptism, Pietism and Wesleyanism. This has given us a rich heritage within the Christian Community emphasizing discipleship, service, peace, love, brotherhood and separation from worldly values (Anabaptism); it has led us to put a great deal of importance upon our conversion or "born again" experience and to seek a warm personal relationship with the Lord (Pietism); and it has emphasized the need to fully accept the Holy Spirit's control in our lives, no longer dominated by sin and selfishness (Wesleyanism).
